GoodStorm Kicks Off API Developer Challenge

$1,750 in cash and prizes for most creative mashups for selling and displaying MP3s, CDs, DVDs and Video Games online

GoodStorm, a progressive ecommerce company, will award web developers for the most creative mashups using GoodStorm’s ecommerce platform and product metadata for displaying and selling books, non-DRMed MP3s, CDs, DVDs, and video games online.

The GoodStorm API Developer Challenge will enable developers to create unique applications that leverage GoodStorm’s extensive metadata on its massive catalog of products. First prize is $1,000. Second prize is $500 in free downloadable MP3s. Third prize is an iPOD Nano. The challenge runs from November 1, 2006 to December 15, 2006.

Yobie Benjamin, CEO, GoodStorm, said: “Developers can create their own digital music or online book, DVD and video game stores, and market to their respective buying groups. By tapping into our vast catalog of music, DVDs and books and leveraging our ecommerce platform, developers can help empower a wide, distributed network of sellers. We look forward to seeing some really extraordinary applications.”

The MP3 API includes detailed artist, album, and track information – including reviews and bios - along with preview clips for every track. The book, CD, and DVD API provides metadata such as artist/author, title, subtitle, annotation, subject, genre, and more. Developers can mash up all of this data in a variety of creative ways.

Developers can also use GoodStorm's purchasing system to allow visitors to buy any of the products in their mashups – all with GoodStorm's generous and open profit sharing on every product sold. Developers can set their own prices and decide how much revenue they want to earn. GoodStorm provides the inventory management, shipping, logistics, and billing for all transactions. Warehouses staged around the United States are used to ensure quick and cost-efficient shipping. On the MP3 side, developers now have access to 2.5 million tracks from IODA, the Orchard, Iris Distribution, CD Baby, InGrooves and several other music distributors and labels.
